Following our Instagram sistah? You’ll know that Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is our bestie right? The reason? The better the SEO on your site, the higher you rank on Search Engines. Right now you’re asking how to improve SEO on your blog? Let’s face it, we want to be the girl at the parddddyyy who works smarter not harder right?
Think of it like good SEO (ya milkshake FYI) brings all the boys to the yard. Make your SEO better than ours…we can teach yah…you get it!
First things first. You just gotta know long tail keywords are the Beyonce of SEO. They’ll help you rank so much higher than a generic keyword.
Long tail keywords are more specific, have less competition and can drive the right kind of traffic to your site. Y’know, like it’s far better for you to do the job properly, first time and then get Search Engines like Google and Bing driving the traffic to you on autopilot.
How you create long tail keywords is basic stuff, when you know how! Be specific. Remember who your readers are and choose words that people in your niche are searching for.
Instead of our (broad ass) keyword being SEO, our long tail keywords is; improve SEO on my blog.
Look at the search results numbers drop by just over 135,000,000 when we add a more specific long tail keyword. Feel me yet?
Now, let’s improve your SEO on your blog!
IMPROVE SEO ON MY BLOG
The min you start optimising your blog, or any website for that matter, you increase your discoverability online. You’re like sayin’ ‘hi hun, I’m here for yah and I’ve brought champagne’. Seriously though, you’re opening your site up to the traffic you actually want.
So when you start doing specific keyword research the magic begins to happen.
“What the hell is keyword research?”
It’s the term given to discovering what the people you want on your blog are searching for on search engines. Researching the words and phrases the people you want to be reading your content then organically sharing increase your website traffic.
Think of your niche, then for each post you compose you’re going to pick a long tail keyword that is relevant to your post. This is going to help make you hella visible in all the right places.
TOOLS TO USE:
Google Keyword Planner: Honey, if you’re not using this. You’re gunna miss out on making that sweet nectar. It’s one of the best tools for bloggers improving their SEO. You can measure the performance of specific keywords. Check out how many peeps are searching your keywords and how competitive the searches are.
TIP – try to find keywords that are less competitive, with usually about 5,000 or less ‘researches’ per month, instead of high figures like ‘SEO’ where there’s too much competition. With the additional likelihood that unless you pay for ads on these broader terms you’ll be lower down the ranks. It’s like perfecting your winged ‘liner, you’re not going to get it right first time. When you do…you da hottest b!tch in this plaaaaace!
INCLUDE LONG-TAIL KEYWORD IN THE RIGHT PLACES.
Now we’ve got the long tail keyword. We need it to work for us in all the right places, y’know like a good push up bra.
Include your long tail keyword in your post title.
Sidenote: you don’t have to put it in the same order. You know like eating dessert first. For example: How can I improve SEO on my blog could be How to grow my blog and improve SEO.
PARAGRAPHS AND HEADINGS
This goes without saying right? We’ve gone through the hassle of getting our heels and our dress looking amaze for our hot date, then we forget to do our hair. Nahhhh, just not happening.
You need to make sure you’re using your long tail keyword in the first paragraph of your blog post and wherever possible your concluding paragraph boo!
You’re going to want to sprinkle it like glitter (after all it’s gold dust to you) in Heading 2 and Heading 3 at least once too!
Tip: You’re not a broken record (90’s babies, we were the last generation of a skipping CD – sob), so don’t be repeating your keyword through the post too many times as that will have the adverse affect and damage your SEO. 3/4 times is the optihun.
Meghan Markle, Vin Diesel, Nicki Minaj and Calvin Harris have all confused us by having two names and clearly, Permalink is trying to be boujie too instead of being referred to as the URL.
Make sure your Permalink contains your long-tail keyword. Our long tail keyword would look like this improve SEO on my blog ellefluence.com/improve-seo-on-my-blog
Where possible try and avoid stop words (the, to, a, who, how). Search Engines hate those suckers!
This is like a Search Engine preview of the good stuff to come. You know like your bio on your dating profile? Meta descriptions should not be longer than 155 characters and should always include your long tail keyword in sentence form so it makes sense what your article is about.
TOOLS TO USE:
Yoast SEO WordPress Plugin: Practice what you preach. If you’re like Madonna and touching SEO for the very first time, or an old hat but improving your site’s SEO then this plugin is the Daddy! It helps you along the way giving you a traffic light score of your SEO. Get them lights green before you hit publish.
OH MY GOD! Like I can’t even deal. So many people don’t know the importance of ALT text. Like it’s an SEO gift from the Search Engine Gods and it’s probably as well known as LaTavia Roberson. Destiny’s Child original member FYI!
Basically, search engines can’t ‘see’ your images so if you use the ALT text to fill in a little information about your post and the image, you guessed it, the ALT text is going to come through for you when people are searching your long tail keyword too.
Tip – I’ve said this before, if you use Pinterest or somebody else pins your images. It automatically pulls your ALT text as the description, help a sister out when they’re promoting your images with an ALT tag.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, I did bring champagne though so it cancels that out. Kinda? Once you’ve optimised your blog you totally need to ‘off page’ optimise.
